Weather History

Interest in the weather dates far before any TVs were around. Think of Stonehenge and ancient fertility rituals, which were connected to the seasons and their associated weather patterns.

In the late 1800s, farmers got their weather forecasts from metal signs of different shapes hung on the sides of trains rolling across the countryside. Sailors got their forecasts from huge black wicker baskets of different shapes hung on high at harbour entrances.
